In 2000 the Darin M. Camarena Health Centers, Inc. (DMCHC) were recognized by the
Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) for exemplary performance in medical teamwork. DMCHC earned the ranking of 1st in the State of California and 1st in the Nation for medical productivity among federally funded health centers. Camarena prides itself with a high degree of professionalism at all employee levels.
Darin M. Camarena Health Centers, Inc., formerly El Concilio De Madera, incorporated in 1978 and opened its doors in September of 1980 in a renovated facility with a modest practice of 1,500 Medical patients. Services consisted of primary health care and health education for perinatal patients.
Over the last 26 years it has grown to become one of the largest local community-based health care providers offering both medical and dental services to nearly 25,000 patients in 3 state of the art facilities.
In our first full year DMCHC saw 1,500 patients with a total of 4,400 encounters. By 2002 DMCHC provided 53,860 encounters to more than 14,000 registered patients and in 2006 the center provided 90,558 encounters to more than 24,702 patients.
In 1982 the Board of Directors approved the purchase of a building in the heart of the City of Madera for new health center site. The new facility was remodeled and doors opened March 1984.
In 1986, due to growing medical demand, DMCHC opened its “B” Street Perinatal Clinic / Administration Complex.
In 1992 DMCHC leased to allow the relocation of Women’s Center just a short walk away and Urgent Care opened for same day care.
In October 1993 Madera Family Health Center changed its name to Darin M. Camarena Health Centers, Inc. Read

In 2001, the Board of Directors and DMCHC staff completed a five-year two-million dollars plus community plan and initiated
Dental Services.
In March 2003, the health center implemented electronic health records, one of the first community health centers and primary medical providers to do so nationwide.
In 2005, DMCHC opened services in the city of Chowchilla, 18 miles north of Madera.
