Diabetes Education Classes
The purpose of the Diabetes Education Program at Darin M. Camarena Health Centers (DMCHC) is to improve patient understanding about diabetes and promote better self management. Group encounters are held the every Thursday with 4 different self management topics in English and Spanish. Also offered are insulin education classes and insulin pump information classes held once a month.
Participants in the Diabetes Education Program will be empowered to self manage their day-to-day care. This reduces complications from the disease and allows patients to live longer, healthier lives.
The DMCHC diabetes team monitors the following at each visit:
- Hemoglobin A1c
- Blood pressure
- Cholesterol/complications
- Exercise
- Foot care
- Depression
- Hypo/hyperglycemia
- Treatment methods
- Meal planning
