Darin M. Camarena Health Centers, Inc. (DMCHC) actively promotes early literacy programs in the local communities by partnering with National Reach Out and Read Center and National Reading Is Fundamental programs to make books a routine part of pediatric care. These programs build on the special relationship between our providers and parents of young children six months to five years.

These literacy programs incorporate reading aloud by encouraging parents to read to their children and providing a book at every well child visit and additional one at a subsequent visit. Along with an age and language appropriate book, parents also receive advice about early literacy and the importance of reading aloud to their children.
